MAC Check (2018)

MAC Check is a hybrid installation-fiction work that imagines a group a networked devices that become sentient and rebel against the structures of a human-based network naming convention. The methodology the machines use to provide their canonical names, that is their registered network address, is agreed upon by consent. While this enables fast one-to-one communication when the names are agreed upon, until that state is reached all other information transmission is halted until consensus on the names is reached by every device on the network. The other side effect of this is that the network becomes unusable by humans.
